Lyn Lambeth

After a career in the seafood industry – at sea and on land – I now focus on my artwork using recycled materials to create mixed media sculptures.

My love of birds is reflected in my latest works, with their lightweight skeleton well suited to the materials I use. For me, birds embody fragility and strength combined.

The techniques I use are informed by my life at sea – knotting, splicing, whipping and wire. I strive to capture the essential character of each particular bird using diverse materials.

Art has always been a constant during multiple travel and career paths, a counterpoint to the physical and mental demands of fishing and  living in remote areas for extended periods of time.

After a lifetime in the tropics I am now settled away from the sea, with my work reflecting local materials while still maintaining conversations around sustainability, the environment and art.
